Big Wood Cairns
Four Cairns have been installed as way markers at Big Wood, Runcorn. Big Wood is an area of diverse woodland in an urban area which provides a safe haven for a variety of wildlife. The range of tree and shrub species include many non-native and exotic specimens such as Scots pine, hornbeam and cherry, and is home to owls, foxes, woodpeckers, buzzards and many more creatures that thrive in the woodland. A large planted pond at the centre of the wood is home to newts, toads and frogs.

Motif mould making
The motif was cut using a laser cutter. From this two rubber moulds were produced and from these the cast sections - to be installed in the Cairns - were produced. They were cast in concrete coloured with red oxide and iron filler. In time the iron will discolour the cast the produce an aged look
